Assupol Complaints

I have written before and not got a response yet regarding a company called Cornerstone underwritten by Assupol where they are taking premiums out of my father's pension for a funeral cover when he has paid more than the insured amount and they say they will only pay the insured amount. They ate refusing if we ask them to stop taking the premiums, they say we can cancel the funeral cover but they won't pay if my father pass on.

Dear Lungi,

I refer to our telephonic conversation and direct e-mail communication.

The funeral policy held by the policyholder provides funeral cover, providing that the premium is paid every month.

This policy does not have the option to be made ‘fully paid up’ to allow for cover to continue without paying premiums.

It does sometimes happen when a policy has been in force for a number of years that the amount a policyholder had paid in premiums, was more than the sum assured.

One must bear in mind, however, that if the amount payable is to be linked to the amount paid in premiums, then when a claim occurs for instance, during the first year of a policy, only a very small amount would be payable, not the full sum assured.

The premium which a person pays each month, pays for the cost of the risk of an insured person dying in that month. The premiums paid do not accumulate as a benefit on the policy.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

Good day,

It is very sad that your company has policies like this that leave poor people ********** of the little that they have and what is very sad and disappointing is that when I asked for help in this regard you are not able to assist me. If all this was explained to my mother before she took the funeral cover she wouldn't have taken it. My dad who is the holder of this policy did not sign for any of this.
