***X4: Sanlam Hospitalisation & Loss of Income Benefit Causing Further Stress

The frustration I am feeling regarding the ongoing issues I have faced with Sanlam concerning my illness benefit has become unbearable. Each time I need assistance, I find myself having to activate my Hello Peter account to seek a resolution, which has become increasingly exhausting and disheartening.

It has now been two years since I first raised concerns about payout issues (which was only resolved because I wrote on this platform); I am compelled to write yet another review. I have been booked off from April 2024 to December 2024 due to my mental illness, during which I was hospitalized. All necessary documents were submitted to my broker, Justin Nkata, as per protocol. However, to date, Sanlam has only processed payments for four months (April to August), citing the need for additional reports from my psychologist, occupational the****** (OT), and psychiatrist.

In response to your recent email, I would like to clarify the following:

1. An updated report from my psychiatrist dated 23 October 2024 has been submitted, containing all the necessary information required by Sanlam. 2. Regarding the follow-up report from my psychologist and OT, I find it perplexing that Sanlam previously rejected my psychologist's report because she is not a medical doctor, yet now requires her report. The psychiatrist has already provided all relevant information.

3. As for the OT, I consulted with one only during my hospitalization, and that letter has been submitted. Since this is not a mandatory part of my treatment plan, I am unsure where I am expected to obtain another report beyond the one already provided.

I find it profoundly frustrating that despite diligently paying my premiums each month, accessing the benefits I am entitled to has become a source of additional stress. As I navigate my recovery from mental illness, the treatment I receive from Sanlam regarding this policy is unacceptable.

Reviewer Update
I am writing to express my deep frustration regarding the ongoing situation with my claim at Sanlam. Despite previous communications, the issue remains unresolved, and I find myself in a position that is both unreasonable and distressing.

Sanlam's expectation that I consult a psychiatrist once again, at my own expense, to obtain a report post my discharge accounting for my mental health post July 2024 is utterly unacceptable. I have already submitted a detailed psychiatric report dated October 24, 2024, which I obtained at my own discretion due to the significant frustration I experienced in 2022 when I was claiming for the same benefit. This report comprehensively addresses all the matters Sanlam is now requesting once more.

It is unacceptable for Sanlam to put me through this ordeal, especially when it is affecting my mental well-being and contributing to a depressive episode. I have fulfilled my obligations by providing 2 recent six-page reports dated 23 and 24 October 2024. I refuse to incur an additional expense of R4500 for reports that cover the same period Sanlam is inquiring about.

I urge you to address this matter promptly and ensure that my claim is processed without further delay. It is unreasonable for me to be treated in this manner every time I seek to claim my rightful benefits.

I expect a prompt response and a resolution to this issue.
