On the 25th March 2025 in serious and urgent matter of renewing my license disc I went into the Traffic Department in Sandton in need to cancel first my double disc that I had in order to get a single license disc as my disc had expired and urgently needed to be renewed as it was overdue after coming from my maternity leave.

When I got there, I first spoke to a lady who sits by the desk at the door, directing customers as to what they need to do, giving them forms and directing them to which window to go to for further assistance.

When I got there I explained to the lady that I was there to cancel my double disc and renew my single license disc and that's when the lady said I need a roadworthy certificate to cancel my double disc as it is a requirement by the law of traffic.

At first, I did not agree with the lady as I was confused by how possible that could be. I explained to the lady that my car I didn't have money to do a roadworthy and I wasn't not told about roadworthy docs from the post office when they referred me to the department.

I then said to her to give me a form and direct me to a window so I can get further assistance, and I will get more info, the lady directed me as I requested.

Fast forward, I filled the forms and went to the window. I was then assisted by a man by the window who went through my paperwork then compiled my paperwork and said to me that I have to get a roadworthy to cancel my double disc and said they can't assist me until I have a double disc.

Disappointed, confused and urgently needing to renew my license disc I told the guy that I don't have money for roadworthy and after driving all the way to get the matter sorted out I can't skip work any longer to get this sorted and the man said they will do it for me for R900 without having to get the car tested.

He directed me to the same lady to get me a colleague to assist. Regrettably and blindfully under pressure, I paid that R900 thinking it was legit and true coming from the authority. [03/31, 21:05] 💐Rethabile 🌻: Today, I found out from my mother's friend who works at a different traffic department that I don't need a roadworthy to cancel my double disc and if I did pay then I was ****med. 💔

My heart is so torn because I was ****med by the government officials inside the branch, who played with my mind and made me pay for something I did not need and wasted my money. If this happened to me the way it did inside Traffic Department then it means that there's a lot of us that this has affected and this sort of crime is being done by the people who we trust to help us without hurting us. Please help so that this doesn't happen to someone else.
