****ty way they handled Covid-19

Good day.

I would like to lay a formal complaint against the SANBS and I am going to copy this email and post it on the Facebook page of SANBS as well for everyone to see.

On 25 April 2020 I had a platelets donation appointment. My wife decided that she would also donate whilst we were there. We donated and all went well.

About 9 days after the donation, I received a phone call from Dr Francis Ngema stating that one of the gentleman that assisted me, was in contact with a Covid-19 patient. This already is unacceptable as I have been around town for essential trips due to my work, and I have met with numerous people. The day after that, I tried phoning NUMEROUS times to find out what was going on, but true to our day and age, NO ANSWER on any given call (see attachement).

I then contacted Dr Karin Van Der Berg out of my own, because it doesnt seem that I will get anywhere. She then requested Dr Francis Ngema to call me back as she does not have any knowledge of the case. He phoned me back much later and I asked him if my wife, who is a Cardio Thoracic Perfusion Technologist and works in OPEN HEART SURGERY in theatre, is also on the contact lists. He sent me a sms much later stating that she will be contacted.

She was contacted Friday (8 May 2020) by an unknown female informing her that the gentleman is all of a sudden positive and that she needs to quarantine herself. Now, first of all, it does not take 5 days for results to come in. And this female also said it in a jokingly manner. My wife has been in several hospitals, treating several patients over the last two weeks. The mere fact that this female thought it be funny by saying "luckily you are on day 14", is absolutely absurd!

I have been donating as much as possible and never once gave any attitude towards any of the staff members, even when I was *****ed around numerous times, and this is the kind of service that we get?

To top it all off, I am still awaiting my confirmation to get tested, since my mother's got a bad immune system and I also saw here numerous times over the last two weeks.

Get your act together SANBS!

I expect a reply in this matter and also I expect action to be taken, because if my wife and I test positive, the repercussions will be high.
