Warrantee period decreased

Good day, in September 2014, I took out a new cell phone contract with CellC and received my brand new Samsung Galaxy S4 on 2014/09/16. I have been extremely happy with the phone. Earlier this year, I had a key in my pocket with the phone, which cracked the screen. I booked the device in on 2016/08/11 with my proof of receipt that proved that I had the phone for less than 2 years (the manufacturing date on the phone stated that it was older than 2 years). The phone's screen was replaced free of charge and I was extremely happy with the service. On 2016/09/12 my phone started giving problems where it would go into a state where it just froze, and would then shut down and restart continuously. On 2016/09/13 at around 11h40, I phoned the Samsung Service Centre in Roodepoort to find out what the procedure was for me to book the phone in again for repairs, when the consultant informed me that the phone was no longer under warrantee. I unfortunately did not get her name. She the informed me that the Samsung policy is the month that you purchase your Samsung product in, is seen as the first month of you warrantee. So, if you buy you phone on the 16th, like I did, you essentially lose 16 days of your warrantee. This is extremely disappointing, as I always saw Samsung as a very reputable company with great after sales services. Surely a 2-year warrantee should mean that your product is covered for 2 years from the date the you purchased./received your product? Seeing that today is the last day of my “2-year warrantee”, I would probably not be successful in getting my phone fixed under warrantee as I should have been, and would therefore now have to purchase a new phone, which I was not planning on doing at this stage as the S4 had been such a great product for me.

Kind regards

Pierre Visser

Just to follow up: I decided to take my phone to the Samsung Service Centre in Roodepoort on 2016/09/15, where the phone was accepted for repairs under warranty, provided that I e-mail my proof of delivery document for this phone through to them. I e-mailed the document through later the same day. I received the phone back again, fully repaired and at no cost to me, on 2016/09/21. Thank you Samsung for your prompt reply to my original complaint and for great service from there on further! I should also mention that I received a phone call from a Samsung representative (after I took in the phone for repairs) to follow up on my complaint here and she informed me that the agent at the call centre should have told me that the product was still under warrantee, if I had proof of my date of receipt. Thanks again Samsung
