Warning: Do not fall for Samsung hype

I am truly ashamed to fallen for all the hype and false advertising regarding the Samsung galaxy note 9 as being one the most expensive phones for good reason. I was especially disturbed by a recent Sunday Tribune article citing it as one of the most durable phones of the year, when my S-pen came out half in my hand, and half still lodged in the phone, barely 3 months old. The Samsung service centre said it was not covered by warranty, and R250 later I had it removed from my phone by a third party store and am now still without the S-pen. Just for Samsung’s benefit, I wish to highlight Google’s definition of Customer care “Customer care is the process of looking after customers to best ensure their satisfaction and delightful interaction with a business and its brand, goods and services”. Samsung’s customer care response was simply that it is not their problem that they are charging exorbitant prices for inferior quality accessories, which in this case sits (and breaks) within the phone, but is defined as hardware and falls foul of the warranty policy. What an ingenious way to shift liability to the client, citing terms and conditions, rather than admitting it is a common problem (the wonders of Google). I truly feel like the ultimate fool, having switched from many years with Apple, and wish to warn other users not to fall for the marketing hype that Samsung creates, rather stick to more quality brands like Apple, more importantly brands that take accountability for their products, and actually provide an after sales service. I am also worried now that I have purchased Samsung TVs and a printer over the years, with extended warranties that are most likely not worth the paper it’s written on. Bottom line: Guys, don’t be fooled by Samusung’s hype, do your homework first.
