Sloppy customer service and downright shiftiness

I purchased a 50" tv from Game stores in Canal walk in April 2014 for R8,999.99. 2 weeks ago the tv switched off and since then it doesn't start up at all. I contacted Samsung customer service centre and was advised to take the tv to Liptronics in Parow to assess the damage. I did that and was informed by Liptronics that the set went defective due to an electronic malfunction of the bottom right electronic board (which overheated) sitting behind the control panel and that the malfunction caused the frame to melt. Due to the nature of the fault and the seriousness thereof, Liptronics advised that the entire frame would have to be replaced at a cost of R10, 090.00.

I then sent the report detailing the above to Samsung with the clear understanding that the fault did not occur as a result of human error but rather as a internal malfunction. I was contacted by Ashlen Chattergoon at Samsung and advised that he will be requesting a quote from the depreciation department for a replacement set and that i would possibly have to pay in something depending on the whether the spec of the replacement set is higher or lower than my original set. The next day Ashlen contacted me and advised that Samsung would like to offer me a 55" tv valued at R16,500.00 but that I would have to pay in R7, 749.50 which is the difference between the book value of the 50" set and the market value of the 55" set. This would mean that the book value of the 50" set would be R8,750.50. I advised Ashlen that i would contact my insurance providers to submit the claim as I was in no situation to pay the difference.

My insurance provider informed me that they would only cover up to an amount of R5,000.00. I advised Ashlen of this and he said that he would get me a quote for a 48" set. Dismayed as I was, considering that it would be getting a smaller set than the one i previously had, I accepted and asked Ashlen to provide me with the quote. Today i received the quote informing me that in order to get the 48" set I would need to pay in an amount of R3, 916.50. This would mean that the book value of my 50" set was now at R7, 073.50, which in turn implies that my original set depreciated by a whopping R1, 677.00 over the course of a day.

Now i have never asked for Samsung to put me in a position that is better than what I was with the 50" set, I simply want to be put in the same position. But to try and **** me and make me pay for a default in the TV is beyond ************. I reiterate that I never asked for a 55" television.
