Samsung "Surge Safe" TV damaged by Power Surge

I purchased a Samsung television in December 2015 from Makro SA. The television came with a 2 year manufacturers warranty (which is now expired) however the television was sold to me by the Samsung representative as a "Surge Safe" unit (as it is clearly displayed boldly on the packaging).

6 months after my warranty has expired, my TV was damaged by power surge (as confirmed by Samsung appointed technicians) and Samsung is refusing to take ownership for an item which was damaged by the very thing that they claim it to be protected against (ie power surges).

The unit I have is a 55 inch, UHD, 4K, LED TV and cost me in the region of R16000 (on promotion) in Dec 2015.thd estimate to repair the damaged unit is in the region of R14300.

Samsung agree the item was damaged by Power Surge or lightning (however there has been no lightning storms during the period when unit was damaged, and therefore lightning definitely was not the cause), but refuse to repair or indemnify me in this instance.

I have been pushed from Dept to Dept, have submitted proof of purchase, as well as sent evidence of the Packaging and serial number and model number on multiple occasions at Samsung request, I even paid the callout fee for their appointed technicians, all to be told that the "Surge Safe" unit isn't Surge Safe after all, and that they cannot assist me.

I do feel like I have been cheated out of alot money, as I purchased this unit under the presumption and guidance that I have peace of mind regarding power surges. I was sold this unit by a Samsung representative as it being surge safe. I paid alot of money for a product which does not deliver on its promise, brightly and boldly displayed on the packaging.

I also wish to note that my other 7 year old Samsung TV (which is not a surge safe unit) has not been damaged by any power surges to date, and still works perfectly fine, despite it being a much older unit. How is it that the older unit was not damaged, but the newer, more expensive one (which is surge safe) was damaged.

I am if the opinion that my rights as a consumer has been infringed upon, and that the false advertising on the TV packaging is grossly misleading.
