Samsung is selling defective TVs
I purchased a Samsung 70 inch smart UHD TV (UA70TU7000KXX) on the 04 July 2021 for R15999.00. In August 2022 the TV was not switching on. The matter was reported to Samsung and I wanted to know why the TV was giving problems soon after I purchased it. I was very concerned that the unit was faulty and needed to be replaced instead of repaired. Samsung's contact and repair centre assured us that we won't have any issues going forward. Thereafter, during 2023 there were times that the TV went into the dormant or non-reactive state and we had to trouble shoot it with the remote and got it working again. On the 21 May 2024 the TV again was non-responsive and the screen was not booting up. The service agent advised that the we unplug and trouble shoot with the remote. This did not work. The problem experienced now is the same that we experienced in 2022. I was now told that I need to incur the expense for the TV repairs which is a call out fee, assessment fee, replacement part fee and repair fee. I am very upset that after purchasing the TV only a few months later there is a problem and the problem persists. This is definitely a faulty unit and Samsung did a patch repair so that the problem recurs outside of the warranty period. I would like to know what is the life span of a Samsung TV because it seems like it it one year or less. Another issue is that there is no guarantee on repair work done and that even after doing this repair that the problem with persists. This unit has a more serious defect which is causing the screen to blow. I also want to know what guarantees are there on the repairs that were done by Samsung.
I aml very unhappy with the purchase and do not see why the TV was not replaced when it was reported in August 2022. Now there is recurring problem with the screen that is unlikely to be resolved with the replace of the screen.
I expect Samsung to replace the TV because problems like this cannot repeatedly surface with the product (TV) that has a long life span. Samsung wants to shirk their responsibility from ensuring that they have quality assurance processes to identify TV that are defective. Secondly, when these problems do surface there is a need to identify and investigate why the product is defective and make the necessary amends. My expectation is to have a TV that last for a long period of time especially that it was purchased as a new product. I did not opt to buy a second hand TV and then I can reasonably expect to repair it because it was bought under these conditions.
