Samsung Gear Fit Warranty

My husband bought a Samsung Gear Fit in January this year. Due to the watch being a FIT watch he wears it every day so obviously it has a few nicks and scratches on the corners (as I'm sure any watch will have). The charger does not cradle in the watch anymore and the watch freezes from time to time and drains the battery. My husband took it back to Samsung and they won't fix it under warranty as they say the warranty of the watch falls away if there are scratches or nicks on the device. HOW ON EARTH DOES THAT WORK? What is he expected to do with the R2000 watch now? Throw it away? And how can you expect a fitness watch that is worn every day to not get nicks and scratches on it?
Being a sales rep he's had 5 potential new customers ask him about the watch but he's warned them not to waste their money based on the shocking service he's received from Samsung and the poor excuse for them not repairing the watch under warranty.
We have 6 different Samsung Android devices in our family but I'm not sure I want to support Samsung anymore after this poor service we've been given!
