Samsung cel ph warranty

I have always had a samsung cel phone. Just dropped my ph this morning and the screen cracked (I have never used or replaced a screen from my samsung warranty). I called samsung immediately.... my warranty ended yesterday as the ph is exactly a year old. I cannot beleive they wont assist for a day old phone and expect me to pay R2500. Clearly time to get an i phone.
