“Premium” Neo QLED 8k disappointment

I purchased what was deceptively marketed as one of the best in television technology — the Samsung Neo QLED 65” 8K, in February 2023. We only began using it in May 2023, and now, barely two years later (October 2025), it can hardly stay on for two minutes before it automatically switches off and on repeatedly.

After contacting a Samsung support agent and following all troubleshooting steps, I was referred to a repair centre. I paid a R650 call-out fee, only to be told that the system had detected over 500 internal faults involving the box and screen layers — and that repairs would cost R26 755,95. The TV has never fallen or been damaged in any way whatsoever and this was confirmed by the Technician. Furthermore the TV is only used at night on return from work. Now, while looking for new TV- Salesmen from various outlets have indicated that the Samsung 8k Neo QLED TV is problematic.

I’m thoroughly disappointed and, quite frankly, disgusted that a product branded as “premium” and costing nearly R40,000 has such a short lifespan of two years. A high-end TV should not fail after just two years of normal use.

This experience has completely destroyed my confidence in Samsung’s quality and after-sales service. I will never invest in another Samsung TV again and advise all not to ever waste such an exorbitant amount of money on a product with such extremely poor durability.

Reviewer Update
Samsung contacted me shortly after this review and while I am thankful for their prompt response the manager in charge of the case simply asked “what can I do?”, unfortunately fixing the TV or replacing it were not viable options, so ultimately, this was yet another futile interaction. At least Samsung can say “we contacted the customer to hear them out- however we could provide no help.”

Thanks Samsung- your 15% voucher is unfortunately impractical to someone who no longer trusts your products.
