Premature Fault on UHD TV Screen
I am the owner of a Samsung 55” UHD TV (Model UA55HU7200U) bought from Hirsch’s Ballito on 3March 2015. The product is now “out of warranty” The purchase price for said unit was R21999.99. Given that this was a belated retirement gift to myself I considered that the purchase price whilst extraordinary was justified given the circumstance. I have enjoyed three wonderful years of viewing. This TV has now contracted a most unfortunate fault which is evidenced by two white light spots on the screen. This is most distracting. I engaged with TM Electronics (Samsung Smart Care Centre KZN) who have examined the fault diagnosed it as faulty backlight LED’s lighting the screen. They have provided a formal quote to repair the condition in the amount of R18 753.00 being the replacement of the complete screen. As one would expect I am extremely distressed the more so given that I had expressly gone to the retailer to purchase a “Samsung” believing that my assessment of the products on the market suggested that Samsung was the correct choice. Sadly this has proved not to be the case. I am now stuck with a faulty R22k TV needing a R19k repair to restore my viewing experience. Never in my 73 years have I felt so “let down”. I have yet to decide the way forward but I fear that another R23k Samsung 55” UHD TV is not on my radar. There has to be a more equitable solution to my situation but right now I am feeling quite isolated.
