Overheating Risk Samsung S20 FE

I got a Samsung S20 FE on contract with Telkom not so long ago, just over 6 months ago now.

From day 1 had an issue whereby the phone was abnormally warm. I then went to Samsung store in Canal Walk, Cape Town who advised me to take the phone to WeFix.

WeFix did a "software reload" and said the phone is fine. Well, to my surprise, the phone wasn't fixed. So I decided to call Samsung South Africa to report the issue, who then asked me to take the phone to SSS Celular in Bellville, Cape Town.

They now replaced PBA-Main and SUB PBA_USB (Motherboard and charge port stuff). Got my phone back today (02/12/2021), so had to set up everything from scratch again.

And behold the phone still overheats, and kinda more now than before. I now have a flashing battery icon and a message saying the following:

"Your phone's temperature is too high. Charing will continue when the temperature returns to normal"

Touching the top part with my finger for good 3 seconds actually starts to burn my finger. So am I now walking around with a ticking time bomb?

I would like to request that Samsung South Africa comes up with a permanent fix to the issue, replace the unit with one that doesn't have this overheating risk, or ensure that I can return this device to Telkom in exchange for another device.

Thanks Grant

Hello, I would like to provide feedback on this issue I reported.

I took the device back to SSS in Cape Town, and they just said that they will not replace the mainboard again, as the mainboard has already been replaced. And I do agree with them.

They pointed the finger at me for the device overheating, calling it an application problem and saying it's WhatsApp. And my immediate response was, why isn't my old Huawei device overheating when using WhatsApp? I feel this is just a tactic to prevent taking responsibility for a faulty model range.

I then received a call from Samsung SA to simply tell me the same. And to go and collect my device and provide a week back to you in a week. Well, the device still gets noticeable warm to hot under normal use.

Using Android Auto is kinda useless, as the device heats up quickly, and due to the heat, the battery charge slows down to a crawl, and eventually, the battery starts to deplete instead of charging or keeping a charge.

So can you (Samsung) kindly tell me what I should be doing next before I approach the consumer commission?

Thank you
Grant
