No Samsung Smart Remote for 55MU7000 in South Africa

<p>I find it very irritating that Samsung scales down their television sets in South Africa. Let me hasten to say that Samsung have every right to do whatever they wish, and that Samsung are not forcing me or anyone else to buy their products. I am simply sharing my recent experience while selecting a &ldquo;Smart Television&rdquo; to replace my 8-year-old 55&rdquo; Plasma set. The Samsung 55&rdquo; UHD Smart LED TV (55MU7000) is, in my opinion not an entry level model. This statement is supported by the fact that, overseas, this television is sold with Samsung&rsquo;s Smart Remote but in South Africa it is sold with the same remote that is supp**** with their cheapest entry level products. You would think that you would be able to purchase the Samsung Smart Remote for your new 55MU7000 Smart Television as an option. After all you are buying a &ldquo;serious&rdquo; Smart Television. Not so. The Smart Remote, even if you could buy it, will not work with the SA version of the 55&rdquo; UHD Smart LED TV. This is what I was told by TTS Electronics (Samsung&rsquo;s agents) in Port Elizabeth. I didn&rsquo;t believe them, so I contacted Samsung and got the following reply: &ldquo;the smart TV will not work with your TV as it requires Bluetooth and the model number of your TV does not have that feature.&rdquo; Without the Smart remote, or Bluetooth for that matter, the Smart TV is no longer very smart as it is a nightmare to navigate with the standard &ldquo;entry level&rdquo; remote supp****. Surfing the web and using apps such as Netfix, YouTube and so on is the only reason why I would buy a smart TV to replace my Plasma TV in the first place. So, I bought a 55&rdquo; UHD Smart TV, in the same price range, from Samsung&rsquo;s competitor. Just like Samsung, the 55&rdquo; UHD Smart television which I bought yesterday, was also delivered with just with a standard remote. However, unlike Samsung, for an additional R 450.00 I was able to purchase their equivalent to Samsung&rsquo;s Smart Remote which is in my opinion, a much better system than Samsung&rsquo;s Smart Remote. The system that I bought turns the remote into something resembling a laser pointer. I move the pointer around the screen by moving the remote without the need to touch any buttons. When the pointer is over the icon, I simply click the &ldquo;OK&rdquo; button &ndash; works like magic.</p>
