Medical Practice left in the dark

On Wednesday 19 October a Samsung Airconditioning unit was installed at my dental practice by "DonAir" an affiliated Samsung Installer. I chose this contractor because he bands himself as a Samsung installer and hence I believed I would receive good service because of the Samsung Brand he is affiliated with.

During the installation process at approximately 13.00, all of the plugs at my practice were tripped and a fairly loud bang was heard. All of my computers and xray machines lost power.

I immediately visited the surgery next door to mine where the aircon installation was taking place. I found that Don had left his workers unattended and they had caused a surge in the electricity due to a faulty extension cord.
I immediately phoned Don and requested he come to the practice to which he responded that "he could not be everywhere at once". I requested his workers stop working in his absence. They did not listen to me and continued to work at the site. Approximately 20 minutes later Don arrived at the practice. He was visibly angry.

Our main server computer's hard drive have been "blown" in the surge. I showed Don and he became aggressive and more angry. He refused to take any responsibility for the damage and said it was a "coincidence". He blamed my electrics at my practice (which were certified earlier in 2016 and I have the COC to prove this).

The damage to our computer hardware due to this surge is in excess of R 20 000.00. This excludes the loss of business I have suffered as a result of this damage. Don still refuses to take responsibility for this damage, or assist in compensating me for the damages he caused.

I am of the opinion that he should have been present on site for the duration of the installation and overseen the work. He called his electrician to visit the practice AFTER the damage had occurred. This is unacceptable. This electrician should have also been present to assist the installation if he was concerned about electrical faultiness as our equipment is extremely sensitive and expensive. The installation which he promised would take 3 hours to complete, took him and his team a total of 9 hours to complete. We had to close the surgery completely on Thursday 20 October in order to allow him to complete the work.

I believe he has acted without any accountability nor the level of professionalism I would expect from a reputable Samsung agent.

I request I be contacted in this regard to assist me with this matter before I am forced to escalate the situation to the National Concumer Commission.

I have contaced the contractor requesting he provide me with his liability insurer's details but he reports he does not have liability insurance.
