Love the S7...but

I bought the S7 on it's release day much earlier this year and have been richly rewarded by the experience, enhanced by waiting for this madel since my great experience with my 'bulletproof' S4.

In August this year I inadvertantly took a swim for 2 or 3 minutes with the phone in my pocket - not to worry, it has IP68 capabilities. Unfortunately the phone thought differently. After debating the issue with the local service agents in PE - TT3 they told me they would charge me! Then I went to my provider - Telkom, who said that I should go to TT3.

Back and forth until Samsung opened up a Branded Store and someone there agreed to help. Happened to be TT3 working onsite. Yay, progress.

They looked at it and after the list of replacement parts was presented (all under warranty) I suggested that they swop out the unit. I was told that this was not required. When they returned it after a couple of day, I tested it before I left the store and whilst it rand no connection was made. Ileft it there and recovered it the next day, the problem apparently was the new motherboard was faulty and now replaced. I expressed my reservation to the repair work, but was assured all was well, as they had replaced EVERYTHING with the exception of 3 items namely the Glass Back Cover, the Speaker and the Ear Phone Jack. All was well antil about 4 days later when the speaker gave up.

Again returning to the repair centre I was told that they would take it on with no questions - but no swop out will be considered. OK, they fixed the speaker - but getting very nervous of the brand/repair centre service.

Speaker fixed and hoping to be shot of the debacle, I went on my way rejoicing until I noticed a separation in the top right hand corner of the screen. The replaced screen was coming adrift from the body casing - and furthermore upon critical inspection the 'pulse sensor' by the flash was clouding over. As the back had not been replaced - the water damage was causing corrosion. I took it in and was told that the parts would take a day, they took a week, then was told the repair would take 2 hours, I went in after 2 hours...

The repair was not finished as while taking the screen off, they saw that it required replacement.

2 x Screens later

2 x Motherboards later

1 x Back / Speaker and ever other little bit later

I have a phone with an original earphone jack.

I am not certain what to expect when I return to the repair centre, but I do know that my confidence it shattered.

Samsung Brand Store PE - Service is EXCELLENT, but their association with instore repair centre must be area of concern.

Good day, public holidays notwithstanding, I am in receipt of your reply today 3rd January. Not quite 2 full weeks after my promised contact from your complaints department. Apart for the standard

"Our Products have been designed with you ..."

and

"At Samsung Electronics, we take pride in ensuring ..."

You go on to tell me that my S7 is out of warranty because it sustained water damage. I do remind you that it is IP68 rated, suffered no physical damage of the casing -back, front or surround, it never went more than a metre underwater and for no longer than 7 minutes.

Is it capable of enduring these conditions or not?

Dear Samsung

I wrote on this forum on the 21st December

On the 3rd January you responded, saying that your complaints division would respond, apologised and gave me a reference number.

Your complaints division did respond on the same day with a "cut and paste" apology followed by a quote from your warranty terms ("..warranty card point 5.6 “accidents Acts of nature or any cause ..") telling me why my water resistant phone is out of warranty because of water damage. -

I rep**** on the same day requesting clarification on certain points that I had raised - to which you rep**** the very next day - not answering a single question about your product or service . The reply was short

"Thank you for your response.

Please advise us of the current status of your phone .

Once again please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience."

Hoping for a more complete response I responded (4th January), equally to the point my response was

"Thank you for your reply

I'm not sure that you answered my question

Regards
Bruce"

Which again you have succesfully avoided answering.

Assuming that you needed clarification on the 13th January I again sent you sent you the queries that I wished to be addressed.

To date (17th January) I have had no response,

I respectfully point out to you that the purpose of my communication to you was to obtain clarification on the issues surrounding your product and subsequent service - nothing useful was gained by my efforts aside from a quote from you warranty conditions.

Do you consider this matter closed?

To answer your question the current status of my phone to the best of my understanding is:

IP68/not IP68 compliant and In/Out of Warranty
