Faulty Samsung S8 phone

I bought a Samsung S8 on the 15th January 2018. Was very happy with the phone..actually I loved it. 6 weeks later, the phone started heating up to a point where it was too hot to touch, the phone kept shutting down even though there was 60% battery life and then could not turn it on until I plugged it into the charger.

I took it back to the shop where I bought my phone and they sent it in for repair. However due to a few scratches on the outside I was told that my phone would not be covered by the warranty.

I got a message back from the repair center to say that the battery and mother board needs to be replaced and it would cost me R8,500 to fix.

When my phone first started given me problems I googled the problem to see if there was something I could do to fix it. To my HORROR there are 1000’s of complaints on the web about the faulty battery in the Samsung S8 phone.

I have used Samsung for the past 8 years and have never had a problem and I am disgusted that knowing the issues and faults with the phone (that I am sure Samsung are aware of) that i am going to have to pay over R8500 to get it fixed. How can a scratch on the outside of the phone cause the battery and mother board to be faulty?

According to the consumer protection act I have the right to a number of things including; 1- right to disclosure of information 2- Right to fair value, good quality and safety

I feel that this has not been the case.
