FALSE/MISLEADING advertising
Good Day
Unfortunately, it does not feel like a good day to me as I am very upset with Samsung’s misleading and false advertising.
On the 9th of January 2025 I went to the MTN store at Cradlestone mall in Krugersdorp to get the Samsung A55 as advertised in their catalog dated December 2024 to January 2025.
On page 15 it is advertised at R 429 per month over 36 months including a Free R 2000 Samsung voucher.
I was motivated to sign up for this offer solely by the R 2000 Samsung voucher as I was planning to use this voucher to buy a cover and screen protector for this phone.
When I received the R 2000 Samsung voucher, I discovered that is not a R 2000 voucher to use on the Samsung online store but merely discount vouchers to the value of R 2000.
Thus, I need to spend money to get the discount or use the voucher. This was not communicated to me at all by the MTN sales rep (Megan), I specifically asked her if I could use the voucher on the Samsung Online store to buy the cover and screen protector and she said YES.
I believe this to be FALSE/MISLEADING advertising as one is led to believe you will receive a cash voucher to use on the Samsung Online Store which is not at all the case.
I returned to the store today (11/01/25) to enquire about the voucher, and asked Megan to explain again what the R 2000 Samsung voucher is precisely and again she said as to her understanding it is a cash voucher, you can use this voucher to buy products on the Samsung Online Store to the value of R 2000.
MTN advised that they were not at all informed by Samsung that the R 2000 voucher is not a cash voucher but a bundle of discount vouchers to the value of R 2000.
Again this is very very misleading.
I also spoke to a Samsung Rep who visited the Cradlestone MTN store by the name of Thabang and the MTN sales Rep (Megan) asked him about the voucher the which he rep**** that he is aware of many complaints about this specific voucher and that he did refer the matter of Samsung to sort out and to make sure that the retail sales reps and informed accordingly so they can give the correct info to the customers.
I wanted to cancel this contract but as per the CPA I am not allowed without having to pay penalties.
I do not have the funds to buy a cover and screen protector for this phone hence the reason for signing up for this deal thinking I would use the voucher to buy the cover and screen protector.
I also wanted to buy the Samsung A9+ tablet that is currently on promotion at Incredible Connection and wanted to use what is left over from the voucher after buying the cover and screen protector to buy a cover for the A 9 + tablet, which I now also can’t do due to being misled by Samsung’s false advertising.
I think it would not be unreasonable for me to ask that Samsung give me a voucher to the value of R 2000 to use in the online store as this is what was advertised.
I hope to hear from you soon and that we can resolve this matter amicably.
Regards
Annatjie Matthee
