Buy and Get communication confusing and led to loss of over R3000
The Buy and Get promotion is very misleading. I purchased a qualifying fridge in 2018 and received my registration code on the 18th January 2019. I phoned them to claim the prize and was told that I had a year to choose my prize. I finally chose to claim my prize on 9 January 2020 and filled in the required redemption form. On the phone I was told that when I received my Reward PIN I would have until the 31st July 2020 to download all my Uber vouchers. I received the confirmation email on the 13th January telling me that I would receive an SMS with my digital code (which the call center agent called my reward PIN) within 7-10 working days.
I received the sms with my Uber pin code (that's what it says in the SMS) on the 15th of January. I used the provided pin code to claim Uber vouchers on the 18th of January.
So far so good.
BUT when I tried to using the Uber pin on the 19th of January I received an Invalid Pin Code error and it wouldn't work. So I phoned the contact center today and reported the problem. The contact center said that the Pin had expired on the 18th January as it was a year from when I registered for the promotion and that I should read the Terms and Conditions. So i then carefully read the terms and conditions. Which said that I had 1 year to download my reward vouchers from the time I received Registration Pin Code to claim.
So here's my problem with this: 1. I was told on the phone that I would have until 31st July 2020 to "cash in" all my Uber vouchers. 2. Only in the terms and conditions does it ever refer to the code that I received when I registered as the Registration Pin Code. The sms I received just told me to quote a number and didn't call it a Pin code. 3. The SMS I received when I claimed my Uber rewards called the reward number a Pin code. 4. The terms and conditions call the Registration Number a Pin and the Uber number a voucher. This is very confusing as it doesn't line up with the SMS messages I received. So when reading the terms and conditions it looked like I had up until 31st July 2020 to use up my Uber reward.
I have lost out on over R3000 worth of Uber vouchers because of this confusing scenario. If they had told me on the phone or in the reward SMS that I had until 18th of January 2020 to claim all my Uber vouchers then I obviously would have done that.
I really hope that they didn't do this confusing communication over the phone and SMS in order to reduce how much rewards got effectively claimed.
Just a warning to everyone on this promo: Claim your prize ASAP as you only have 1 year from when you received your REGISTRATION SMS not your Reward SMS
