Smart dud Samsung TV

I bought a 55cm smart TV 3 years old last week packed up and I was told that the screen or Panel is faulty and I have to get a new one it cannot be fixed. In addition it is out of warranty and I didn't buy an extended warranty. So what does this mean? an extended warranty takes care of poor quality workmanship. How can a TV turn 3 year and just pack up and Samsung doesn't realise it is broken chain in their quality. Are all their products the same now. I wrote to Samsung and they chose not to respond. The TV was bought from Hirsch in Durban.
