Salomon tekkies, only lasts a few months it seems

I have always warn Nike shoes, recently the claim of 'quality' caught me buying a pair of Salomon Speedcross Vario tekkies. They are now about 11 months old and both of them are tearing at the exact same spot on the top near my little toe. Is this how long a Salomon is suppose to last? Somehow I think even cheap Pep tekkies can last a year at least. I hardly ever even walk in dirt with them nevermind 'cross country' or mud or anything like that. Very poor quality.
