Exchanging of shoes

I bought shoes from Salomons in Canal Walk. After doing a very steep trail I realised that the left foot is too tight. I walked in the shoe frequently to ensure that it fits perfectly. However when doing a trail (which is why you'd mostly buy the shoe) you realise whether the fit is perfect or not. I wanted to exchange the shoes (within the given time frame of exchanges) at the Salomon store in Canal Walk but they refused to take it & told me to email info. I had to drive at least an hour to get to this store. There policies have to be made clearer. Put it on the receipt so that I don't have to drive this far for nothing. Utterly disappointed!
