Bathroom scale shattering experience

I bought a safeway LCD Display glass bathroom scale about 2 years ago. I am not overweight and have not been mishandling it when it just shattered. I was lying in bed last night - nowhere near my bathroom - when I heard an shattering noise. I thought something had dropped on the floor. When I entered the bathroom the entire floor was covered in small pieces of glass and the scale was in pieces. I have no clue how this happened. Nothing has fallen on it or come near it. Shocking... Will never buy safeway ever again.
