A (scale) shattering experience

On 24 August 2015 I bought a Safeway electronic glass scale with LCD digital display at Clicks Menlyn Retail Park.

I followed all the care and cleaning guidelines for usage. I never exceeded the weight limit at any time. The scale did not fall or crack at any stage during usage.

At exactly 1 year and 4 months and a few days after purchase , I used the scale to weigh myself. I was standing barefoot on the scale. At no time was there an error message and any other indication that something was wrong.

I was on the scale for a few seconds and as soon as I stepped off the scale, the scale simply shattered into pieces. The pieces of glass flew in all directions and I found myself surrounded by glass shards. For several minutes afterwards I could hear the glass shards making a cracking noise as it lay on my bathroom floor.

I gathered everything and went to the Clicks where I bought the scale. The manager and staff were shocked by the damage. They refused to refund me or replace the damaged scale with another model as the 12 month warranty had lapsed.

I realise that the warranty did indeed expire, but this scale is unsafe!!!

I can't begin to imagine the extent of my injuries had the scale shattered while I was standing barefoot on it!!!

I will never ever again use a glass scale in my life! And especially never an UN-SAFEway product again!!!
