Safari Outdoor - Are they too big to care about their customers

Safari and Outdoor - Bad advise, even worst after sales service!!!! On Monday I visited Safari Outdoor in Boksburg to fit a GL01 Trijicon night sight to my Glock 19 Gen 5. After inquiring about the night sight, the sales consultant at Safari Outdoor in Boksburg convinced me to rather fit the Trijicon HD night sights, with the yellow front sight, to my gun.

At first I was skeptical, but after he showed me sights on other firearms, one with a white front sight and one with a yellow front sight, I decided to take his advice and purchased the "more expensive" HD sights. The Safari Outdoor gunsmith fitted the sights to my gun, and after paying for it I left a "happy" customer.

After carrying the gun for about 2 days, I noticed the gun was hurting me, and after closer investigation I noticed the sights that was fitted, extended past the frame of the gun, and the very sharp edge at the bottom of the sight was what was hurting me.

On Friday I went back to Safari and Outdoor in Boksburg to find out if they will not be willing to fit the other night sights, I originally wanted to buy to my gun, but I was told, "Sorry, the sight were fitted and we are not able to help you". I asked to speak to Leon, the Branch Manager at Safari Outdoor in Boksburg and at first he didn't even want to come down from his office to see me.

When I insisted, the sales consultant eventually got him to come and see me. I explained my experience and problem to Leon, and after listening to me, he told me; "sorry, but there is nothing we can do".

I fitted a R3000 Trijicon night sight to my pistol, on the recommendation of the Safari and Outdoor sales consultant and they fitted the sights for me. I would have thought their "experienced" gunsmith or trained sales consultant would at least notice, and warm me, that the specific sights they sold to me will NOT fit my gun correctly, but no, they will rather make some extra money out of me, instead of offering me the right product.

Where to from here? Well firstly I will never buy another single item from any of the Safari and Outdoor stores in South Africa again, I will rather support the smaller local firearm dealers in my area, even if the products are a little bit more expensive, at least I will be sure of expert advice and better service.

I also decided to share my experience and frustration with you, and although I will not tell you to stop buying from Safari Outdoor, please make sure you know exactly what you want, and don't rely on their "experts" to advise you, or for them to "change" your mind by up-selling a more expensive product to you.

Safari and Outdoor might be the biggest firearm dealer in South Africa, but they have lost me as a valued customer, and I will make sure I will keep on telling my story to all my friends and family, to at least prevent Safari Outdoor from exploiting them, like they did me.
