Intellectual property infringement

The SABC licensed a TV series containing an unlicensed musical work to broadcasters in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America without clearing the copyright which belongs to a well known South African songwriter and Artist. The broadcaster neither sought permission for the title song of the series belonging to the Artist to be licensed abroad nor paid any applicable license fees.<br> <br> The SABC claim it's not their responsibility but the producer's as they signed an agreement for the production including the musical content with him however if they broadcast or cause to broadcast the music by licensing the program to third party broadcasters they are making themselves guilty of copyright infringement and by extension any international broadcaster is likewise guilty of copyright infringement. The SABC is further guilty of copyright royalty ***** as they have not paid for any license to use the song in the series, this should give anyone food for thought as the SABC's TV License department is quick to threaten ordinary consumers with legal action over non payment of TV licenses. <br> <br> Be that as it may, the SABC is responsible and will be held to account.
