SAA's terrible service, rude and unaccommodating staff

I was booked on an SAA flight from Jpohannesburg to Cape Town departing at at 16:00. Boarding time was 15:30. At 15:25 I went to the boarding gate and stood in the queue which was very long and wound behind some pillars. At 15:45 I finally got closer to the gate only to realise that the queue was for the gate next to the gate I was meant to be at, and my gate had closed! There were 3 other passenger who had made the same mistake! SAA person at gate was very rude and would not let us board even though we explained we had been there the whole time (though mistakenly in the wrong queue) and said we had missed the flight. We asked why there wasn’t a ‘final boarding call’ announcement and we were told that final boarding calls for passengers wasn’t made anymore for ‘security’ reasons. In contradiction to this there was an announcement for final boarding and calling outstanding passengers (by name) for another SAA flight almost immediately. She just shrugged and still refused to try help us on the flight. Then confusingly, she went on to say we weren’t even on the passenger list even though we all had boarding passes... We all went back to SAA ticket desk and they too were very rude and said there was nothing they could do to help us and our only option was to buy a new flight back to Cape Town. Exasperated, I eventually managed to find a flight home on Kulula (whose customer service was AMAZING by the way!), but at a cost of over R3000. Even more distressing was that 2 of the other passengers were desperately trying to get back to Cape Town in time for a funeral, which inevitably they missed due the terrible service we received.
