SAA what a joke!
after recently getting married, my wife and i booked a honeymoon trip to Brazil through SAA. we also booked accommodation and sightseeing tours. we arrived at the OR Tambo airport 3 hours before time and checked in at 3 different security points... only to get stopped at the 4th and last and told we were going to be off loaded together with 3 other people, as we did not have yellow fever vaccination cards. what a shock! we then went back to the SAA counter and were told quite bluntly that it is not their responsibility to inform passengers about this and furthermore we would have to pay a penalty fee to change the tickets to another date....this would range from R8500 to R25000! no sympathy or willingness to assist us at all! we were to blame and thats that! the 1st person from SAA we spoke to informed us that there is a clinic at the airport which could give us the injections, however we would have to stay in Brazil for 10 days if we wanted to fly the next day. we decided to get the injections and then moved to another SAA counter to try to rearrange flight dates. the lady there informed us we couldnt fly for 10 days and would have to wait...thus the rush to get the injections was a waste. i really dont think SAA knew the correct procedure. SAA allowed us to check in...why tell us at the LAST gate we cant fly, surely this is mistake by there part, furthermore since they are the ones removing us from the flight, why not inform passengers before hand either when buying tickets or after about requirements for travel. this will ensure these tragic situations never happen. extremely unhappy and angry with service from SAA
