I have a couple of experiences with SAA that make me mad. 1) I used to work in the DRC and flew from Durban - Jhb - Lubumbashi. First time around i was told that i could not board the plane in Durban as my visa was not valid. I read the visa to them as it is written in French and as a international airport none of the staff could read french. The visa was valid and i was allowed to fly the following day . I lost a days pay and had to pay the company back for the ticket change. This cost me a lot of money because of SAA staff stupidity and lack of knowledge in their own game. 2) This happened again and i was once again liable for all sorts of costs and being accused of intensionally missing the flight. I have sent mails to SAA and i get a message back everytime that they will get back to me within 10 working days. What a load of crock. I want my money back as they messed up at my cost. Next problem. I now work in Cuba and normally fly Durban - Jhb -Frankfurt etc etc and back. I have once again sent a mail to customer services SAA with no reply. Not surprising. The problem is this. Durban is a international airport . When i fly to Cuba from Jhb i am allowed two(2) bags of 23 kgs each which allows me to bring my sporting goods up here ( bicycle , diving gear etc ). Because i fly from Durban i am only allowed one bag of 20 kg. My baggage is booked from Durban all the way through to Panama. I don't have to recheck it in at Jhb. So its not a domestic flight for me. Why should i be discriminated against because i live in KZN and not Jhb. If we have connecting flights abroad we should have the same privilages as people flying out of Jhb. Should we rather catch the Greyhound bus to Jhb and check in there. No wonder SAA are running at a loss. Nobody wants to fly with them as they dont have a cooking clue about their customers. Start with the small things , revise your policies , respond to your emails , have compitent people working there that can at least read and understand. I am now flying Lufthansa , what a differance.
