Almost a month ago we returned to SA after a 3 year contract in Kenya. Our flight from Nairobi (SA180) was cancelled as the aircraft had a technical problem. We disembarked and awaited further instructions ........ but nothing happened. Eventually SAA's ground handlers Swissport diverted all passengers flying directly to Jo'burg onto alternate Kenya Airways (KQ) and SAA flights, leaving those (like us) with connecting flights within SA with no assistance or support whatsoever. Eventually, after my personal intervention at the KQ boarding gate, we were transferred onto the KQ flight, with the assurance that our luggage would be transferred onto the same flight. This was however not the case, so we ended up at our temporary accommodation in Cape Town on a Friday night at 10:00 pm with nothing - not even toiletries!! On Sat 7 May we went and purchased essentials, as none of the SAA or KQ 'customer service" desks were answering their phones. I also sent a detailed e-mail to "saa customercare" as was suggested by the SAA ground staff at ORTIA, and have since sent reminders, and ................ still no response. Eventually our luggage arrived 4 days later!! Surely I can expect to be compensated for the expenses incurred in purchasing essentials (clothing, toiletries etc) whilst awaiting our luggage? And, surely SAA should respond to customer complaints? This makes their Customer Service Charter a joke too!!
