SA Airways - 'The best airline in Africa'

After getting my seat selection wrong (one that was paid for!!), flight SA260 (JHB-FRA) stood in its parking bay for more than 3 hours while an engine ***l latch was being repaired/refitted. Eventually, after this time, the flight was aborted (23h30 at night!) 'because it would take all night to repair' and passengers were removed from the aircraft and told that they would be accommodated in nearby hotels. The flight shall only leave at 09h00 today (10th of Jan 2017) This raises some questions. How could the captain even accept the aircraft if the technical head did not sign off on it? In his own words 'they worked on all four engines today'. How can SAA put around 300 passengers on a plane if they don't know if it can fly? Will they compensate us for the trouble they have caused, considering we are missing important meetings in Germany today? Will they compensate us for the time wasted and unnecessary expenses? Who is going to pay the cancellation fees for the hotels in Germany, because there is no point in flying there today just to come back again. Who is going to accept responsibility for this, what are they going to do to compensate the severly inconvenienced passengers and what are they doing to ensure this will not happen again?

Dr Paul Nel
