Overbooked flight,useless service

We booked our flights almost a year ago and arrived at the airport a whole three hours.before.departure just to be told the flight is overbooked. Not my problem. If a plane has a hundred seats.why book 120passengers.Useless airlines , thanks to.SAA will.miss my fathers departure back.to UK.
