Not Proudly South African

We arrived at Cape Town International Airport (ZA) on Monday, 5th September 2016 for our flights to Victoria Falls (ZW) via Johannesburg (O.R. Tambo International). On check in at the airport we were advised that the name and surname for each passenger was swopped around. I was very shocked at this statement and find it very hard to believe that I would have booked 3 tickets incorrectly. At this point I thought that this error could merely be fixed by the airline. To my surprise I was told that SAA (South African Airlines) policy does not allow any amendments and that we would need to purchase new tickets if we wanted to go on holiday. These “new” tickets came at a price tag of around R34 000 which needed to be paid in cash as duly informed by the lady behind the ticket desk.

This was not an option as none of us could afford to pay for another ticket let alone who can withdraw this amount of money 7 o’clock on a Monday morning?! We have been saving for months to be able to go on this trip. We left the airport in utter shock and disappointment.

At this point I thought maybe we could amend the return flight and purchase a one way ticket to fly the next day. Not an option either as SAA cancelled our return flight. There was no further options left to us but a mere refund of the tax we paid for our tickets.

The unhelpfulness, unfriendliness, slowness and “no can do” attitude of your staff leaves much to be desired and be proud of. I have now “written” off my money as charity towards your dire financial state.

SAA is definitely not “Proudly South African”.
