Flight Delay Horror
To whom it may concern (South African Airways )
I write this email with much disappointment about my experience at Mauritius international airport today ( 03 January 2020).
I arrived at the airport 3 hours early to check into my flight ( SA 193/ MK0947 departing to Johannesburg at 15h35 local Mauritian time) only to find out that it had been delayed, with new estimated departure time being 18h15. I stood in the check in line for over 1 and a half hours, when I finally got to the counter , I handed my passport over to the agent and details were confirmed. I was told that I was on standby and will not be able to get onto the flight as it was fully booked , I was never on standby nor did I receive any communication regarding this - my flights were all confirmed. I was told by the agent that South African Airways will offer me a one night stay at a hotel near the airport and that I will be booked onto the next flight tomorrow, fully compensated by the company ( 04 January 2020) which I agreed upon , I was told that the hotel vouchers for the night will be prepared and that I should come back at 17h30 to collect the vouchers. I waited from 2pm to 5:30pm( 3 hours ) after which I went back to the counter to pick the vouchers up. I was spoken to rudely by the agent and was told that they cannot do the one night stay and that I must leave immediately on flight (SA191) which was going to depart in the next 30 mins, I called the manager and also told him that my other travel agent was confirming the one night stay with the airline but I was rudely and arrogantly told that they cannot do that for me and that I must leave immediately.
Flight SA 191 to Johannesburg that I was rudely forced to go on was the worst flight I have been on , the food was disgusting, tasteless and bland , the air hostess were not professional enough - safety demonstration on the flight was not carried out properly and emergency exits were not pointed out to the passengers during the safety demonstration. Passengers were forced to used old blankets used on the previous flight - this is totally unacceptable and unhygienic. during the food service we were asked to take more than 2 drinks at once- where were we supposed to put it knowing how small the tray table was??
Upon arrival in Johannesburg at 19h30(flight SA191) and waiting an hour at the baggage collection carousel , I went to baggage claim and they had told me that my bag was not on the same flight and that it was coming on a later delayed flight - totally unacceptable as a persons luggage should accompany them where ever they fly - I will not be liable for the loss of my items in the luggage if my luggage is broken into and this will have to be sorted out by the airline if that is the case when I get my luggage TOMORROW.
I have travelled extensively and never have I ever experienced something like this before with other airlines . I therefore wish to be compensated for my time wasted , baggage loss and the rude treatment and horrible flight experience by the airline . I will be posting my experience with SAA on social media.
