Airline elayed due to aircraft technical problems

Good day, on the morning of 1st February 2015 I booked a flight to durban for a cruise I was supposed to be on the 2nd February 2015. I was with 2 other passengers and we missed it due to the delay caused by the technical issues it had. It was due to leave OR Tambo at 12:10pm but we ended up leaving at 12:50pm. We passengers were informed by the crew that this flight 551 had technical issues from Cape Town. What I'm not understanding is, why use it still if it came with a problem from Cape Town?? Now I'm sleeping over at people's houses because of the south african airline that made me miss my Portuguese island trip. What am I supposed to do now and is there going to be any compensation? I'm really angry, I would be on holiday now and my holiday is now ruined.<br> My flight reference is W1502S7XWZXM. My seat number was 24A. Miss Letabe even got a voice message after we landed to king shaka from the MSC crew member wanting to check where she was.
