The South African Post Office is a national disgrace.

We have had a post box at the Crown Mines Post Office since 1985. In that time, we have paid our annual fees regularly as requested. We paid for the 2022 post box renewal during the year at Cresta Post Office (this I have done many times before) and I filed the receipt. When our driver went to open the post box to retrieve mail a few months ago, he was told we hadn't paid post box renewal- I took a picture of the receipt and sent this via What's Ap to his phone so he could show them the receipt number, guess what they said: "No, you must bring in the physical receipt" Now this week he went to the Post Office to retrieve mail and the key would not work in the post box lock! He went inside to query this and guess what they told him: "The key is a **** you must now buy a new key" I am dumbfounded at the audacity of the workers at the Crown Mines Post Office, this is a **** they are perpetrating, they are trying to ****** money via any means possible. Is there no oversight at the Post Office anymore? Do they not have a code of conduct they have to abide by? These workers at Crown Mines Post Office should all be dismissed., over the years we have found them a surly lot, with no interest in assisting any customer. The Post Office provides a service to all the citizens of SA but what service are they providing? When we go to the Cresta Post Office the staff are helpful, obliging, and efficient. I will never renew my Post Box ever again- all important mail comes through our email and this in effect has rendered the Post Box obsolete. The post office workers are just hastening their own demise, I have no sympathy for the staff at Crown Mines should they lose their jobs, unfortunately diligent workers will probably go first.
