SA Post office service sucks!!
I mailed a parcel (registered mail) to the UK, which contained documents they requested to renew a passport. This was on 20/5/2019. Three weeks later I phoned to find out where the parcel was as the tracking seemed stuck at OR Tambo. I was told that the parcel had been intercepted by SARS and to send an email. Email sent, no response.
I then went to the JHB international mailing centre, hung around there at the security office for more than 4 hours trying to get answers (you are not allowed past security to go speak to someone - you have to explain your story to a security guard and then he phones someone to try and explain what I want from the security gate - you know the game "telephone"? It's like that, by the time the third person has been told, the storyline is probably completely distorted).
After much back and forth, I was told by SARS that SAPS now had picked up the parcel. I was given a phone number by SARS for another SARS office to get the reference no for the SAPS pick-up. (Bear with me, this is a long story, and very confusing....) Of course, no answer at this number.
I then thought I'd take my chances and go to SAPS at OR Tambo to check if they had it. We went through a log book together (no jokes, not a quick check on the computer, an actual manual log book..) looking back from when I posted the parcel until the 23rd of June.. Nothing like my parcel taken by SAPS. I was referred back to SARS by SAPS.
Eventually 2 days later, they answered my call. Mr Koma (from SARS) then checked and told me that they had never intercepted the parcel and I must phone the Post Office. He gave me 2 cell numbers of "high up" people (as he called them) and I was to explain my situation to them and ask them where my parcel was. First number - no reply, to this date. 2nd number was a lady called Mathapela. I gave her the whole long story over a whatsapp message, as requested by her. Heard nothing for 2 days. I whatsapped her again to ask if she had any luck and I was told that "they" will contact me directly. That was 28 June. No contact so far. I sent another message to Mathapela now to ask for an update. I'm not hopeful.
If my parcel does not arrive at the UK government by 14 July, the application is thrown out and the fee of more than R2500 is lost.
I'm desperate, can someone at the Post Office PLEASE find my parcel?? I will pick it up from wherever and send it via DHL. PLEASE!
