Overbilling on Items
My parcel (RN***LT) finally arrived last week on 27/03/2015. When I went to the Stilfontein post office they told me to pay a customs and duties amount of over R1800. The item I purchased cost me R385 inclusive of transport. How can this be? Now my parcel has been sent back to customs and arrived yesterday for re-assessment. I am now waiting for it again hoping that I won't be charged such a ridiculous amount.

We are not sure as to what it is that you have imported however the charges are based on the declared amount on your package, its import duties, VAT and clearance fee of R35.00. The import duty as based on the declared amount on your package. VAT and clearance fees of R35.00 are added on. If you are not happy with the charges you are however welcome to request the post office to return the item to customs for the officials to indicate if the calculation was done correctly.
