Over charged for Customs

I ordered a few items from the US as I usually do, ranging between $200 -$400 and I usually pay around R400 on Customs, Which is fine, now my latest order finally makes it to the post office for collection and I'm charged R5160 Customs for a $262 order, which is unacceptable... now they tell me I must then send it back for reassessment which could take 3-4 weeks and possibly get ******.
