I gave 30 years of service to the South African Post Office. Every month, they deducted money from my salary to pay for medical aid with Bonitas — no questions asked, no lapses in payment from my side.

But when tragedy struck and my late husband was admitted to hospital, Bonitas refused to pay the bill. Despite all the deductions made in good faith, they failed us when we needed them most. Now, with no warning or support, the Sheriff has delivered a summons demanding over R14,000, which I simply cannot afford — I have since been retrenched and have no income.
