Lack of service delivery Postoffice Walmer
Whats up with the Walmer post office in Port Elizabeth? Firstly they do not answer their phonecalls. EVER. Actually none of the postoffices in PE that I called answered there phones on Friday. We all know as state entities go its dysfunctional and not geared or focused on its main function: service delivery. Walmer Post office in 7th ave takes this to the extreme. I went to renew my license and post a parcel during my lunch hour on Friday. Seems like half of PE had same idea. Yet there were only 2 tellers at work. They only dealt with parcels. The licensing office was closed. Apparently, as the 50 of us waiting in line found it, the person in charge was on his lunch break. He could be seen walking in and out eating his chips and smiling at the other staff, Seemingly oblivious to the growing ques and impatient throng, behind the counter. I gave up on the licensing side and went to post my parcel It was to be sent to USA. The woman weighed the box and said I must pay R1100. I post parcels regularly and this usually should cost around R45o. I said its “surface freight” not “airfreight”. Yes, she said. I have it as Domestic parcel. I said that it is too expensive and the price is wrong. She refused to budge. Eventually I called the other teller over who showed her on the system that this was International postage And the price dropped to R511. The form I usually fill in was also nowhere to be found, she did not even know about it until I pointed it out to her. Meanwhile, no one cared about the people that crowded the building. There was no sense of urgency. The staff clearly showed through their body language that the furthest thought on their minds were to provide "fast, efficient service". No manager in sight. No one cares. No one took charge and no one looked at all like they gave a hoot if anyone was being helped. It is time there is some serious shake up and wake up done and more staff employed. Most people have only lunchtims to do essential business like vehicle licensing. Why does the person responsible for that, take his lunch then? And only 2 staff during lunch hour? One, clearly a trainee? Shocking!
