JIMC moribund over school holidays
I make extensive use of SAPO's international parcel service. For several months in 2019 things were humming along very nicely and I wrote to SAPO complimenting them on their service. And then Mark Barnes was pushed out and since then it's been downhill all the way until the December school holidays when the JIMC effectively shut down and the old SAPO rot was reinstituted. The post office website for several weeks undertook that airmail parcels posted before Dec 1 would be delivered timeously for Christmas. I posted several such in the last two weeks of November 2019. As of today only one has been delivered and that was well after Christmas. I have spent much of last week on the line to Customer Services (mostly just hanging on) and have established that: 1. A "massive backlog" (their phrase) had built up by the end of the holidays 2. The JIMC was on a "skeleton staff" (their phrase and I think by this they mean the nigh****chman) over the school holidays 3. The tracking system has been *******ed and is yielding contradictory information - items show as "shipped" and "pre-shipping" simultaneously. This applies to outgoing airmail parcels. I won't even comment on the incoming where I have found the same applies. The new CEO and the JIMC management need to be hauled into the media spotlight to explain to the public what is going on and ministerial intervention needs to happen immediately. As things stand at present SAPO has perpetrated a ***** on its customers and whatever goodwill Barnes achieved is rapidly evaporating.
