Being chased away at the post office
Hi. I recently went to the post office in Hunter's Retreat Port Elizabeth and had the worst experience. I went thrice and this is what happened...
The first time I popped in the lady had just closed for lunch and told me that I should should come afterwards. Not living far from there, I went home to go have lunch. When I returned the was a line of about 6 people ahead of me. When I got to the front, I saw I needed proof of residence and immediately ran home to go fetch it. I returned about 15:30 and was told that she's only going to help the last guy. Even after she knew I've been there so many times in a little more than an hour's time. Her reason being the manager has left or took the day off so he had to stop earlier. Renewing a license takes about two minutes and even after I asked her again, I left and rushed to the Sunridge post office where I was promptly helped.
I know it might not seem right to make everything of race but I'm sure if it was a white person, she would have responded differently. The last guy she was helping was white too. Mentioned the above incident to the other post office person that helped me and even she said it was wrong. They let everyone in when it's closing time and then close the doors but never turn away people. There was still 30min left to be helped but got chased away. Is this how the Post office handles all the clients? I was so furious at the time. I nearly felt like throwing my toys out of the got and getting rude but didn't.
If she did this to me, how many other people were turned away that we don't know of. Wanted to return to go see the manager but he's probably also a white person and am not going to frustrate myself by doing that. Really wish she gets disciplined for her behavior. Can leave my ne and number if needed. Please don't let this incident pass unnoticed.
Thank you
