On the email sent on 10 August 2016 Touching Base, from Human Capital Management, a Frequently asked questions, nr 2 to be exact, I quote "What is the difference between Mutual Seperation and Early Retirement?" The answer was, I quote "Mutual Seperation is for employees who are younger than 50years. It can also apply to employees between the ages 50 and 54 who opt NOT to take early retirement. Early Retirement is only available to employees who are between 55 and 64 years of age and those employees between the ages of 50 to 54 who OPT to take early retirement."
The previous answer you gave me on the difference of codes 3901 and 3907 was copied (from google?) and forward to me. Why would 4 different consultants from the SARS offices in Welkom question the IRP5 that has the RIGHT code of 3901, but yet different on their system? Who changed the code and why? It was right the first time.
The copy SARS gave me from their system, from the POST OFFICE RETIREMENT FUND which indicates Reason for Directive states TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT - RETRENCHMENT.
In the booklet the consultants receive it states that:
code 3901 Gratuities and severance benefits e.g Retirement, Retrenchment or Death
code 3907 Oher lump sums e.g backdated salaries extended over previous tax year, non approved funds.
I fall under the Retrenched code 3901, please consult with a higher authority if you are still in doubt about the difference in the codes, please rectify the right code on the system so that it could reflect correctly on the SARS system.
Your respone would be appreciated.
Regards
Mrs SD Godfrey

Hi Esther, on the income tax certificate of 2017, there is a code 3907, which according to SARS information booklet indicates: Other Lump Sums (e.g backdated salaries extended over previous tax year, non approved funds).
It should read code 3901, which according to SARS information booklet indicates: Gratuities and Severance Benefits (Retirement/Retrenchment or Death).
Could this code please be rectified, I have been to the SARS office back and forth and also telephonically communicated with their call centre numerous times since August 2017.
Your quick response regarding this matter would be highly appreciated.
Thank You
Mrs SD Godfrey

I, Suzette Diane Godfrey, tax reference nr ********** 193, have been enquiring back and forth between my previous employer at SA Post Office in Pretoria and my SARS office in Welkom about my IRP5.
I took a severage package and finished work on the 30th September 2016. On the income tax certificate there is a code 3907 which according to SARS booklet indicates: Other Lump Sums (e.g backdated salaries extended over previous tax year, non approved funds).
I have been to my SARS office back and forth for longer than a year now, after numerous emails to my previous employer in Pretoria, they do not want to change the code to the right one, there are 5 different consultants that told me that the code is wrong.
The correct code should read 3901 which according to the SARS booklet indicates: Gratuities and severance benefits (Retirement/Retrenchment or death).
I have a frequently asked questionaire that was distributed on 10 August 2016 from my employer to all the staff, one of the questions were: What is the difference between Mutual Seperation and Early Retirement? The answer was : Mutual Seperation is for employees who are younger than 50 years. It can also apply to employees between the ages 50 and 54 who opt NOT TO take early retirement. SARS office told me that only my previous employer the SA Post Office can rectify the code, every time I send an email the corrospondence is negative, I do not know what to do or who to contact to rectify the right code.
I have the documents to support my case and the corrospondence between Mr Brucelee Makhado and myself. It also seems like he is the only one at head office in Pretoria who works with the IRP5 certificates?
Please find attatched corrospondence with Mr Brucelee Makhado.
Your help would be highly appreciated,
