Shocking Service

3 Weeks ago we had a terrible storm in our neighbourhood. A storm that blew down several trees and caused a serious amount of damage to properties. During this storm, we experienced incredible winds that resulted in part of my front boundary wall blowing over. I notified SA Home Loans of this and a claim was registered.

During the 3 weeks I have received zero feedback from the insurance department, other than an sms or two notifying me that a claims assessor will be coming past. Other than that, I have had to literally beg and plead for feedback, please feel free to check the call log and recorded phone calls. Today I was told that the claim was rejected outright due to the fact that the wall was poorly built and the trees in close proximity have compromised the foundations. How this was determined I am not sure, as no where are there cracks from foundation movement and no one took part of the mortar to check the mpa and composition thereof. The inspection on the wall comprised of a series of measurements and photographs, no checking of mortar, brickwork, foundations etc.

Now I have left my children and dogs exposed for 3 weeks while SA Home Loans drags their feet and then drops me with excuses that are futile. The wall has been standing for 4 years, we have an incredible storm and there are damages from winds…. Is this not the purpose of insurance to assist? What is the point of my policy then if you are not willing to assist?

Shocking service from an institution that promises you the world to get you to sign and then once you are on their books, drops you when you need them.
