Home Loan cover

Hello Peter. My late father took out a bond with SA home loans and the bond got approved and 11 months later he passed away, when we tried to enquire about the home loan life cover they said it only starts to cover after 24 months from the date of purchase. Doesn’t a life cover kick in immediately after the bond has been approved?
