Damage caused by Leaks

I had to attend to a leak which had caused damage to the walls and carpet in one of our bedrooms. I then called SA Homeloans whom I have a building cover and was informed that they do no cover leak detection. They however registered my claim for the damaged walls and carpets. They indicated also that they will not pay for the repairs of the leak. To my surprise yesterday I received an e mail from Thandekile advising me that my claim has been rejected. Surely most building covers, cover such incidents. What was also of interests to me is that for any claim you need to pay an excess for each item damaged which is contract to their definition of excess \ the first amount of every claim that you are required to pay". I have decided to cancel this policy and source from reputable insurers that have cover for such incidents. However I am taking up the matter with the ombudsman as I feel the claim if it was excluded should not have been registered."""
