Claim Amount and Service
The Initial Claim was for roof repairs on several poly carb(translucent) Harvey tiles plus a gutter. After an assessor came out SAHL offered me a cash settlement of just over R1000... 1) the amount (after getting a separate company in) was sorely under estimated, and did not cover the basic costs of material. 2) Paying out money means I had to source the repairs myself, where they had the assessor from a repair company in the first place.
After never once being contacted or able to get hold of the assigned consultant by phone, and having to always initiate all communication. I get a one liner basically telling me if not happy phone the contractor. I Did. they said they could possible y repair until March, but stood by their quote, when asked how i could possible source materials and labor for that price they refused to continue conversion saying I should speak to SAHL.
During the several days of trying to sort this out my ceiling then took damage from all the rain which resulted in further damage, I finally gave up and got hired another contractor to fix the mess. (please note they fixed using cheaper tiles than where originally their and did not do gutter, and the price was almost 4 time the settlement amount offered by SAHL.
SAHL refuse to budge on original pay out amount, or offer sufficient explanation as to how they came up with the amount - except for a one liner from their contractor.
I am escalating this to the Short Term Insurance Ombudsmen as it seems that either SAHL are not bothered in fair or logical treatment and the vendors they are contracting are sub-standard or mis-quoting to help SAHL reduce Claim Costs.
