Unprofessional Business

I had my interview in October 2023 and it was successful. I was then told when training would begin and so forth but as training began there was no mention of contracts or anything like that so I sent emails and WhatsApp messages and during teams meetings I would ask about contracts but any mention of contracts was either ignored or I was requested to ask the big boss about it.

At some point I was told I would receive a contract and I assumed it would be before we officially started working, but then suddenly funds of R500 were transferred to my account, because I was supposed to use those funds to buy airtime and call the research participants and capture the response ( our job was data collection and we were working from home).

Feeling uncomfortable with the funds laying in my account, I decided to start work, assuming a contract was on the way. The big boss finally sent a message in a group chat, which stated “ for those who have not received contracts, I will send them within the week”… three weeks went by and I again asked about contracts, resulting in me being perceived as hostile. The words I used were verbatim were “ it’s been three weeks since we received this message and we still don’t have contracts, this puts me in an awkward position “. I expected a response but got none, instead a few days later, the person who seemed to be our manager or supervisor then called me and basically told me that I was wrong for the message I sent and I should apologise.

November and December passed with no contract, no payment for services rendered or any further communication from their side. January came and they called me asking that we resume working of which I stated I was not interested due to their lack of adequate communication
